IB Maths Tutor in Dubai

IB Diploma students choose between Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (AA) and Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation (AI), each at Standard Level (SL) or Higher Level (HL). The choice matters for university entry, so a good tutor starts by checking that the course you are on suits your target degree and then builds a plan for your papers and your Internal Assessment.

How we help

🎯

AA or AI: how they differ

AA is more algebraic and proof-oriented and is usually expected for courses with a strong mathematics component. AI is more focused on modelling, statistics and technology, and suits students whose later studies use data and applications. Check each target university’s requirements, because they vary.

📋

How the exams are organised

Papers combine short and extended-response questions, with some papers allowing a graphing display calculator and some not. HL students also face an additional paper. We practise each paper type under its own conditions, because calculator skill is a skill in itself.

🔍

The Internal Assessment (Mathematical Exploration)

The IA is a written exploration of a topic of your choice. Students lose marks on a vague question, a topic that is too easy or too large, and weak reflection. We help you choose a focused topic, plan the maths, and check your work against the published criteria. The work and its originality remain yours: we guide, we do not write it.

📄

MYP and pre-IB

For students in the Middle Years Programme, we build the algebra, geometry and problem-solving habits the Diploma assumes. Early support often makes the move to Year 12 far smoother.

⚡

Choosing a good IA topic

A strong exploration starts from a question you are curious about, uses mathematics at the level of your course, and leaves room for your own analysis. Weak topics are those where the maths is only copied from a textbook. We help you check your idea against the published criteria and plan a timeline with checkpoints so the work does not pile up before the deadline. The work itself must be your own.

💡

Building long-term fluency

IB Maths rewards students who keep practising across the two years, so we suggest short weekly practice sets instead of rushing before exams. We track errors by topic so you can see progress, not just scores.

🏫

Schools our students come from

Our students study at many of Dubai’s leading schools, following the IGCSE, A Level and IB Diploma programmes. We are an independent tutoring service and are not affiliated with any school.

What to expect

📄
Topics students find hardest
  • Functions and their transformations.
  • Calculus: differentiation, integration, differential equations at HL.
  • Statistics and probability, including distributions and hypothesis testing.
  • Vectors and complex numbers at HL.
  • Using a graphing calculator efficiently.
⚡
Common mistakes we fix
  • Not showing enough working to earn method marks.
  • Misusing the calculator: wrong mode, rounding too early, or not using its statistical functions.
  • Weak command of function transformations and notation.
  • Starting the IA too late and choosing a topic that is too broad.
  • Giving numerical answers without the required accuracy or units.
💡
A sample 10-week plan before mocks
  • Weeks 1-2: diagnostic and a topic-by-topic gap list.
  • Weeks 3-5: functions, algebra and calculus problem sets.
  • Weeks 6-7: statistics and probability, with calculator practice.
  • Weeks 8-9: past paper questions in exam conditions.
  • Week 10: mock paper and error review.

Questions answered

Can I switch between AA and AI?
Schools have their own rules and deadlines. Discuss this with your coordinator early; we can help you compare the content.
Do you help with Theory of Knowledge or the Extended Essay?
Please ask when you enquire. This page covers Mathematics only.
How often should sessions be?
Weekly is common, with extra sessions before mocks and when the IA is due.
